Different types of poker players

Our starting hands are taken against our opponents and their hands, so what may we look forward to seeing in the card room? Let's talk about some of the different kinds of players you’ll see and the way they generally play. It’ll help you to make one of your most important tools as a poker gambler, and to place somebody into a category of players. It’ll help you reduce the possible hands the others could have and it’ll help you understand how good your current hand is comparing with their ones. When playing, try your best to classify every person into the following:

Calling Station: - It’s the worst sort of player and the most widespread (called sometimes a "fish"). The calling stations do what their names mean, they just call. They have bad hand selection. On the flop the calling station will call having almost anything, and will do it all the time to the river. This player has little discipline or skill. They’ll be in each hand no important if there’s a raise prior to them. In front of a better hand (e.g. a flush or a straight is on the board and they do not hold it), they’ll call it just down. The most part of the money you will make will be from such a sort of player. As they play so badly it’s an example how you shouldn’t play. He isn’t selective and doesn’t wait for good chances to put his money behind, he spreads it out over each hand, bad or good, and finally that certainly can't work. Remember above mentioned analogy of the bad investor. If there are these types of players in the pots, you will simply play your cards and see what will happen. That means you cannot put them really on any sort of a hand as they could simply hold AK as they could hold 92. If you’ve got a hand (e.g. top pair with a great kicker) then simply bet it and see what will happen. You’ll fancy watching out for a calling station if he raises you though. A calling station usually is a rather passive gambler and if he raises it does mean something. If you make good folds at times, you will be a better gambler. If you cannot fold a losing hand in that case you will be just a calling station and certainly a losing player. If a player raises and with what he raises is one more significant item you’ll fancy watching for. That helps you not only to classify them but also helps you to select the hands you play against calling station. When before the flop a calling station raises that could mean everything but they usually hold a good hand (AA, KK, QQ, JJ, and so on). That’s why, be careful playing against them when you’ve got a hand which could be simply dominated such as KQ, KJ, KT, and so on. If you note them raising constantly with almost every hand that they play in that case you may have seen the following category.

Loose Aggressive: Such a gambler plays the same number of cards as the calling station does and he/she has an opportunity to cap, reraise and raise hands that he/she shouldn’t (for instance: Q9s, A5 off suit and so on). You can understand rather fast if a gambler is loose aggressive one. It’s impossible to take great cards the whole day and in a case when they are raising 3 hands in a row then probably that all those ones are not premium. In the situation when there are 2 or more loose aggressive players at your table the pots can be huge, but you can lose much money if you don’t win. Remember 2 rules when you play against such guys: when they raise they have not AA always so you may play against such gamblers with hands that with which you usually call. Another thing that you should remember is that if loose aggressive gamblers raise every hand it doesn’t show you that they are not continue to get a good one from time to time. So after my words, don’t cap that with such gamblers if you only have main pair. It can be very costly. You can find such loose aggressive gamblers and you should do it just before the flop as after that, gamblers tighten up some. You should pick up on these things. After all, you shouldn’t afraid them because of their desire to raise. Show your talent and make them shake out their purses. Those typical loose aggressive gamblers are usually guys with a short man complex or young Asian males.

Rock: - he’s a super tight gambler, he plays only premium cards. If he raises you’re sure what they hold (AA, KK, AK, and the like). He won’t be in on lots of hands and when he is, it’ll probably be with a raise. A rock is far better than a maniac and a calling station but he isn't playing properly for low limit (or any other limits). The trouble with low limit he faces is that when six other players are in against his AA, it is not about to hold up a lot. In the upper limit holdem his hands will not be valued as the other people can read them very well. The thing you can just learn off a rock however is that he picks good cards and tries to put his money behind them. It’s correct. He isn’t just playing sufficient amounts of cards. He’s the contrary of a calling station. You should stay out off a way of Rock if you can do it. For instance, you would not fancy bringing KJ off suit up against a rock’s raise preflop. However if you’re in a multiway pot with many players in and the rock raises in that case you’d like to play your draws. A great item about playing a rock is that he is extremely predictable. If he raises you, the nearly always have it thus do not pay him out. Anybody who is observing the game can see in any way what kinds of hands he’s playing. You’ll face several rocks when you play low limit holdem. The main reason is that if you’re a rock it’s difficult to progress up, you are coming to a standstill at the low stuff as anybody that can play the upper limit games will defeat them as rapidly as a calling station. An old lady is the typical rock.

Weak Tight. Such player is not so often in low limit. A weak tight gambler has a lot of skills that has a winning gambler, but he/she is a bit scared. Such gamblers appear when they are moving up in levels.

A gambler can get bullied around by raises, as he/she is afraid other gamblers and they can notice that of course. The appearing of a weak tight gambler can be because of too hard rules. A player should bear in mind that poker is situational play. Also a gambler shouldn’t depend on some saying, system or a book. Let the experience transform you into a brilliant gambler. You should watch carefully after weak tight player during a game most of the time from the moment he/she is going to be making too many “turns” on you: he/she won’t bluff you quite. It’s so striking to put a weak tight gambler after a loose aggressive one. The weak tight gambler will be waiting for the best cards, instead of concentrating his hand selection on the rest gamblers. It’s just a suitable time to bluff when your opponent is a weak tight gambler and if something scary those hits in a hand. In a case when the raise is on a later round with the size of the bet is larger a weak tight gambler is a great believer. It can be said, that bluffing is not a large part of the play, however even in low limit people are rather good to notice what they may have and rather clever not to call. To bluff a good gambler is much easier than a bad player, as the last one doesn’t trouble what you may probably have.

And the top of the pyramid is a Tight Aggressive. Such player is the sniper, good investor, the laser and the clever bomb n the world of poker. It is your aim, your ideal. The ability of such gamblers to adapt to various gamblers and plays and at the same time follow their moves with their money makes them severe opponents. You may find a tight aggressive gambler when you see a person who does not gamble a lot of cards but in a case they do they take control at last. Such gamblers slow play big hand. They gamble weaker cards in a case the odds justify that. They can fold hands that other gamblers would hit in a trap. It’s very difficult to make money when you play against a tight aggressive gambler. You should play good hands against such players and even try to break. And after all do not worry; you won’t come across into many of these types at low limit.
